The Bloomington Argentine Tango Organization began in the spring
of 2006 when four students from Indiana University met in a raquetball
court. Since then, this Southern Indiana organization has grown
into an active group of over 50 members. BATO welcome students and
community members interested in learning about Argentine cultural
traditions and music.
This community of tangueros and tangueras continues to grow through
the grassroots efforts of its members, hosting tango workshops and
milongas
in addition to weekly lessons and practicas. BATO has found support
from the local Bloomington business community, including The Lodge
101, where classes are held every Tuesday night, and Cinemat, a
local business that hosts the group's milonguitas.
Amaury de Siqueira serves as BATO's instructor. Prior to his arrival
in Bloomington, de Siqueira founded a group at the University of
California, Santa Barbara and taught for four years. He studies
under Brian Griffin and Fay Villanueva and has ten years of experience
performing Argentine Tango.
